The Slick Serenaders

Slick Serenaders at Lancaster Jazz fest

Founded in 1893 as a minstrel show, the band fled Storeyville in 1911 to bring 'jass' to the north. Some personnel changes have followed.

Marshall BarrieSheriff B. Marshall fronts the current band. Nowadays the Sheriff has abandoned the simple system clarinet for the plain old 'liquorice stick', specially hand-carved for him in New Orleans from Pontefract Cake mishapes, and fondly remembers teaching Johnny Dodds the Gay Gordons.

A wizard of the understated chord sequence, Pee Pee Guppy strenuously denies playing Tuba Euphonium or the guitar."I stick to the bass" says Dr Guppy, whilst wiping liquorice off the fretboard.

Chas 'Twohands' Ambler bought his antique vibraphone because he had space in the van and has bitterly regretted it ever since, irritably refusing tours with the Rolling Stones, Lionel Hampton Appreciation Society's Goodtime Experience Swing Aces and others.

Jon Moore - famous for his association with Edward 2nd's more unsavoury items of  history. He was the first man to play amplified electric guitar at a medieaval court .... so they say.

Collectively the can transport you to the Benny Goodman era - and while you're there you can buy yourself some cheap booze.
